Key: (o) = observed data; (m) = modeled data; (i) = model interpolated observations; see below for discussion
Is it observed or is it modeled?
Some tools provide model output data (shown as "o" in the table above) while others provide observational data (shown as "m" in the table above). Additionally, some tools provide a mix of these types by presenting both modeled and observational data. To complicate matters some tools present observation data that has been interpolated (typically to convert station or point data to a map) using model or statistical relationships (shown as "i" in the table above). Such interpolated data can be considered a model/observation hybrid.
Typically forecast data is from a model.
